Before You Exit "Dangerous" Music Video

Check out a behind-the-scenes video.

Concert Review: Before You Exit - Dangerous Tour

BY: KC Brown

With their exposure on radio Disney, Before You Exit has recently exploded. It’s no wonder why they are so popular. Their songs are catchy and relatable, filled with upbeat lyrics and melodies. Their most recent tour, The Dangerous Tour, definitely showcases how far the band has come in the past few months.

Spencer Sutherland opens the show with a mix of original songs and popular covers such as "Talk Dirty to Me" and "Royals." He does a good job at opening up the show and getting the crowd ready for what’s to come.

The second opener, Macy Kate, is new to the touring scene but a natural at performing. Her voice is phenomenal, whether she is playing an original song or covering "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragons. It’s hard to believe that she is only 15 years old.

The final opener is Plug in Stereo. Despite their music being more relaxed and laid back, they seem to fit perfectly into the lineup. While not everyone in the crowd knows all of their songs there is one song in particular that almost everyone sings along to. "Truly, Madly, Deeply" is a well-known One Direction song that lead singer Trevor Dahl helped to write.

Finally, Before You Exit bursts out onto stage, while launching right into their new single, "Dangerous." They play original songs such as "I Like That," "End Of The World" and "Soldier" and mix in a few covers such as "Roar" and "Life Is A Highway." Though the three brothers may be young, they know how to put on a riveting show. After watching them perform, it’s clear why they draw such large crowds and easy to see that they will continue to become more popular in the future.

Album Review: "I Like That" EP

BY: Amanda Puglisi

After two long years of writing and recording, pop band Before You Exit finally releases their new EP “I Like That”; which sends fans into quite a bit of a frenzy. And it’s not only in the States: fans all around the world are buzzing about the new music. Single “I Like That” made it all the way to #7 on Monster Radio RX93.1 in the Philippians, while the EP itself also climbed it’s way to #19 on ITunes. Wow, impressive boys! They’ve really come quite a long way since their last EP “Letting Go.” Now, not only is the band re-emerging with a new sound, but also a new member, Toby, brother of band members Connor and Riley McDonough.
The six song EP released earlier this month features a revamped version of their hit song “End of the World” with rapper Anth, along with two other catchy tunes, “I Like That” and “A Little More You.” These high energy songs will get you throwing down some of your best dance moves and singing along at the top of your lungs in no time. But the EP also shows a softer side, with tracks “Settle For Less,” co-written with Alex Gaskarth of All Time Low, “Three Perfect Days,” and “Soldier.” After listening to this EP, you will hear just how much they’ve broken away from their once punk rock edge genre into a more pop kind of mold.
The EP opens up with title track “I Like That,” which introduces us to an insecure girl who is unaware just of how beautiful she is both inside and out. The boys shower her in compliments, but she immediately shoots them down thinking they are “dead wrong.” They keep insisting that they will “follow her until she sees it too.” It has a One Direction “What Makes You Beautiful” vibe.
Next, we slide into the already popular track “End Of The World.” This is always a crowd favorite at the live shows because the simple echo of “NaNas” gets everyone singing. It is carried by an infectious rhythm that will be sure to get you on your feet.
Moving into track three, things slow down with my personal favorite “Soldier,” an acoustic ballad written completely on their own. This song packs powerful vocals from both Connor and Riley and really serves as an anthem for their fans. It’s all about staying strong and letting them know that you’re never alone.
“A Little More You” talks about wanting to do away with all the little things, just to spend more time with their girl. Cute, right? This has to be my second favorite track on the EP because the lyrics are not only funny but super clever and upbeat. I can’t seem to get it out of my head.
Quickly following, we have “Settle For Less” which describes a girl in a relationship who is not getting the proper attention she deserves. The boy from the outside looking in point of view is trying to prove to her that he can be a better boyfriend, that he is “someone to love her till the end.” We’ve all heard this kind of story before.
To close the album, we have the serious play on words of “Three Perfect Days.” A story of what seemed to be a perfect relationship, only to come quickly tumbling down because he was “just another weekend fling.” The lyrics allow you to really paint a vivid picture in your mind about how the scenario is unfolding. That is something I find unique about it.
So after listening to both EPs, even though I am a fan of “Letting Go,” I do really enjoy “I Like That” as well. I believe that this big shift into pop suits them very well, and it seems like they have finally found the sound they were looking for.
With that being said, I do highly recommend this EP for those that are big supporters of pop music. I would say overall it’s a well produced EP. My copy has been stuck on replay for weeks.

Tour Review: The Resolution Tour

BY: Liza Boodhansingh

Action Item is on “The Resolution Tour” this winter in support of their new album, “Resolution.” Hello Highway, Before You Exit, and Paradise Fears are along for the ride on this full U.S. tour. The tour began on the East coast. The tour is currently making its way west, and it will swing back around to end in Action Item’s home state of New Jersey in mid-February.
California native, Hello Highway (Daniel Sumstine), opens "The Resolution Tour" with a very upbeat song called “Hope In Tomorrow.” The band Fourth & Coast acts as Daniel’s band. This is Daniel’s first full tour. You can see his passion for the music in every song he plays. The next songs on the set are “One Last Wish” and “Heart Like A Metronome.” Daniel introduces “Heart Like A Metronome” by asking the crowd if they’re ready to get sexy. The set ends with “Timeless,” also the name of his newest EP, and “Break Free.”
Before You Exit, from Orlando, Florida, takes the stage next. Don’t judge this band too soon for their young appearance and passionate fans. They know how to have a good time on the stage. They open their set with “The Best Thing” and “Three Perfect Days.” Next on the list is their mash up of Justin Bieber’s “As Long As You Love Me” and “Beauty And A Beat”. This mash up seems to be a fan favorite. Before You Exit ends the set with two of their most upbeat songs, “I Like That” and “End of The World.” Both songs involve crowd singing back “na na na na na na na” or “I I I I like that.” If you aren’t dancing at the beginning of the set, then I can guarantee that you will be by the end.
South Dakota natives, Paradise Fears, go on just before Action Item and open with their recently released single, “Warrior”. The band adds an extra drum piece to the stage for Sam and Cole to beat throughout the set. Their next song, “Just A Feeling,” begins to get the crowd dancing. The band slows it down a notch by playing “Yours Truly,” a song which they have never played live before. They continue with “Home,” which is played at a slower pace than the studio recording. The crowd is picked up with a cover of Ke$ha’s “Die Young”. Sam throws down some rhymes in his rap during the 2nd verse to make the song the band’s own. If you have seen Paradise fears live before, then it is no surprise when they end their set with “Sanctuary,” and the whole crowd screams “hallelujah” back to them.
Hailing from Bergen County, NJ, Action Item takes the stage as well-seasoned artists. Action Item sets the stage with a drum intro that merges into “Good or Bad” from their new album. They continue with “Brave,” which is also from “Resolution.” After “Brave,” they pause to ask the crowd who has been with them since “The Stronger The Love.” Brian tells everyone who has purchased "The Stronger The Love" to close their eyes and go back in time to the first time they listened to the album. Action Item proceeds to play “When Everything Falls Back Down,” which is off of “The Stronger the Love.” They mix in some covers such as “Thinking Bout You” by Frank Ocean and “Blackbird” by The Beatles. Along with these covers they perform a mash up of “Home” by Phillip Phillips and their own song “Home.” One of the highlights of the set is towards the end when the band acts as a drum line to introduce “Marching Band.” Sam Miller of Paradise Fears joins Brian Cag during the second verse. They partake in a friendly “sing-off.” Action Item ends their set with “The Scientist” by The Script. Although the crowd is very pleased, they are begging for more. Action Item begins the encore with their story book style song called “Where We Left Off.” The song is a story of Action Item’s journey. The show ends with “Learn To Fly,” which makes everyone get off their feet and dance.

If you haven't been out to the tour yet, you may still have a chance to check it out.  There is still a month left of "The Resolution Tour." Check the dates below to see if the tour is coming to your area!
(The February 16th show will be at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ.)
